Danggo neglected Ranikor: Bindo M Lanong

SHILLONG, Aug 30: United Democratic Party (UDP) working president Bindo M Lanong has said that the people of Ranikor constituency have rejected Martin M Danggo in the just concluded by-elections because there have not been any developmental activities in the region under him.

Speaking to The Sentinel, Lanong said, “For the past 20 years Ranikor was represented by Danggo and in these past years as an MLA of the region he was a Cabinet Minister and also a speaker in the legislative assembly however his constituency is still lagging behind with less developmental activities hence the people have decided to look for change and elected a new representative.”

Recollecting the past, he said, “Around 20 years back it would only take around three hours to reach Ranikor from Shillong however now it takes more than six hours because of the poor road condition in the region.”

In this connection, he said the party will stand behind their newly elected MLA form Ranikor Pius Marwein to bring about development in the entire constituency. “We will make sure that proper roads are being constructed and the existing roads which are in bad shape should be repaired and this will be taken up by the party with the state government and we are confident that things will start moving ahead within one year,” the senior UDP leader said.

He also pointed out that under Danggo there was no growth nor was there any positive activities when it comes to farming and agriculture in the area.

When asked, on the poor performance of the Congress in the Rainkor by-election, he said, “Danggo is a former member of the Congress and the people have witnessed that the party under former Chief Minister Mukul Sangma had neglected the constituency hence the people have replied by electing a new representative after twenty year.”
