TURA: The office of the Deputy Commissioner of Supply, West Garo Hills, organized a programme recently at the Thokapara village under Dalu C&RD Block to mark the World Consumer Rights Day with the theme, "Fair Digital Finance", where a large number of people from all walks of life, including the Fair Price Shop dealers and Vigilance Committee members participated.

According to a press release, the chief guest for the day, Cheman D Shira, MCS, deliberated at length on the theme and urged the people not to get cheated by fraudsters while doing online transactions or business.

The Food Safety Officer, South West Garo Hills, Sainira S Marak, spoke at length on food safety and the issues pertaining to contamination of common man's food and urged the public to be responsible consumers while purchasing packaged food articles.

Raksang K Marak, Inspector of Legal Metrology, highlighted the activities of the department of Legal Metrology and urged the consumers to be aware of weight, price, date of manufacturing, expiry date, etc. while purchasing articles. Juniko K Marak, Superintendent of Supply, spoke about the National Food Security Act, 2013 and urged the NFSA beneficiaries to get enrolled with Aadhar as it is mandatory for availing the allotted monthly quota of food grains.

Others who spoke on the occasion included the BDO, Dalu C&RD Block, Dr Uttam Tamo Ch Sangma and Luna A Sangma, member of District Commission.

On the day, the office of the District Nodal Officer of UIDAI conducted a camp mode Aadhar enrolment of National Food Security Act, 2013 for the NFSA beneficiaries of the region.
