Desecration of idol at Bhoothnath Kali Mandir condemned

SHILLONG: The incident at the Bhoothnath Kali Mandir at Mawbah on Sunday night when the idol of a revered goddess was vandalized is truly a case of pure hooliganism and thoughtless vandalism, said a senior clergyman of Meghalaya on Tuesday.

"If not tempered with sanity and understanding, acts such as these would portend to invoke communal hatred and religious fanaticism. Perpetrators of these incidents should be appropriately dealt with by the authorities," said Revd Purely Lyngdoh, President of Shillong All Faiths Forum (SAFF). He said that the Forum strongly denounces this incident, and the representatives of all the faiths under the SAFF have unanimously expressed great displeasure that this obnoxious act had taken place in Shillong.
