East Garo Hills pays tribute to Captain Williamson A Sangma

WILLIAMNAGAR: The East Garo Hills district administration observed the 30th death anniversary of Captain Williamson A Sangma, the first Chief Minister of Meghalaya, in the premises of the Deputy Commissioner's office in Williamnagar on October 23.

Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner and chief guest Swapnil Tembe lauded the tireless efforts of Captain Sangma in preserving the identity of the hill people and to bring development and welfare to them. He also urged the people of the region to contribute to the hill State that came into existence due to the untiring efforts of Captain Sangma.

The other highlights of the anniversary included the gun salute by the police and laying floral wreaths in respect of the great leader.

The function was presided over by the District Public Relations Officer, WG Momin and the vote of thanks was proposed by Saljong R Marak (EAC).

Earlier, A Ch Marak (ADC) delivered the welcome address and Deputy Commissioner of Labour, Mirzahan N Marak, read out a brief life history of Captain Sangma, stated a release.
