SHILLONG: The Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills convened a meeting and also conducted a spot inspection at the 58 Gorkha Training Centre (GTC) in Happy Valley on Saturday. The DC was accompanied by the 58 GTC Deputy Commandant, Superintendent of Police East Khasi Hills and Rangbah Shnong besides members of Mawshabuit Village to sort out issues arising out the of presence of the gate and the inconvenience faced by residents of the village and commuters of the area who have to pass through this route on a regular basis.

The meeting resolved that immediate steps would be taken by 58 GTC to ease the difficulties being faced by commuters daily. All the issues were discussed at length during the meeting.

On the issue of shifting the gate as requested by the villagers, the Deputy Commissioner said that a team will be constituted to undertake survey and conduct a thorough study of the revenue documents.

The committee will then send an appropropriate proposal to the government to take up with defence authorities at the earliest, added the DC.

In the meanwhile, to ease the problems faced by the residents and also to address the security concerns of the Army establishment, a Coordination Committee will be constituted. It will comprise a senior Magistrate, Police officer, Adjutant and three representatives of the village. This committee will provide quick and mutual resolution from time to time.

The SP Shillong will give assistance to manage the traffic here. It was also resolved that all concerned will work together for an early and amicable resolutions to this long-pending matter.
