SHILLONG: Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Wednesday asked the agitating Samagra Shikha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers to resume classes.

It may be mentioned that for the last two days, the Meghalaya SSA School Association (MSSASA) are on an indefinite protest at the Additional Secretariat Parking Lot here.

Rymbui said that he had met the agitating SSA teachers several times and explained to them that the Government of Meghalaya as of now has complied with all the requirements of the Central Government for release the first instalment.

"So as of now we are awaiting the first instalment from the Centre so that as soon as we get we will be able to release the salary of the teachers," the Education Minister said.

He also said that he does not know how much fund the Central Government will release, even as he added that whatever amount the Centre in its wisdom will release will be handed over to the school managing committees for payment of the salaries.

Rymbui has also appealed to the agitating SSA teachers that they should work together.

"I know the hardship which they face every now and then due to late receipt of funds. But there are some things which are not in our hands so we have to understand that," the Education Minister said.
