Election Commission rewards Meghalaya

Shillong: The Election Commission (EC) on Wednesday announced that Meghalaya has been awarded the National Award for Best State for Electoral Practices, 2018.

The State was awarded for overall performance in election management in criteria covering EP ratio, 18-19 registration, partnership building, conduct of elections, voter turnout and most notably innovative voter awareness/voter education and electoral participation.

The award carries cash prize, plaque and citation and will be conferred by President Ram Nath Kovind to the State Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor at the function of the National Voters Day in New Delhi on January 25. Meghalaya’s efforts have especially been recognized for outstanding achievement in voters education and electoral participation and innovative measures. Besides Meghalaya, in the overall achievement in the States category, Karnataka and Chattisgarh have also been selected for the award.
