Employees’ State Insurance Scheme(ESIS) website launched

SHILLONG, Aug 27: The official website of Employees’ State Insurance Scheme(ESIS) was launched on Monday at NIC Conference Hall by Principal Secretary, Information Technology, and Communication etc D P Wahlang. Speaking during the launch, Principal Secretary D P Wahlang said that the Labour Department is a very important department for the welfare of the labourers who are the marginalized sections of the society. He said that still many labourers in the State are not aware of the benefits that can be availed from the Labour Department and thus there is a need to disseminate information. He also made a mention of the need to disseminate information about the ESIS, a multi dimensional social security scheme for the welfare of the labour class and the weaker sections of the society. The ESIS was implemented in Shillong area in 1980 and extended to Byrnihat in 2005. Those covered under ESIS are entitled to two types of benefits Cash Benefit that comprise of Sickness Benefit, Extended Sickness Benefit, Enhanced Sickness Benefit, Maternity Benefit, Dependent Benefit, Disablement Benefit and Funeral Benefit. The second type of benefit is the Medical Benefit.
