Sohra (Cherrapunji): The family of Raja Raghuvanshi, the Indore-based businessman who was brutally murdered during his honeymoon in Meghalaya earlier this year, performed a puja on Thursday at the site where the heinous crime took place.

Led by Raja’s elder brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, the family conducted rituals at a secluded parking lot near Weisawdong Falls in Sohra, the spot where Raja was hacked to death in May. “We wanted to come to the place where our Raja breathed his last. No family should have to do this, but this was important for us,” said Vipin, struggling to hold back tears.

Raja had gone missing with his wife, Sonam, on May 23 while they were on their honeymoon. His decomposed body was found ten days later at the bottom of a 30-foot forest gorge, bearing multiple machete wounds. Investigations revealed a chilling conspiracy: Sonam, allegedly involved in a relationship with another man named Raj Kushwaha, had orchestrated Raja’s murder along with three others from Indore. After that, Sonam initially fled the scene but later surrendered to the police in Uttar Pradesh. All five accused, including Sonam and Kushwaha, are currently in judicial custody.

“We demand swift justice. Those who conspired and killed our Raja must not walk free,” said Vipin, urging authorities to fast-track the trial and ensure strict punishment for the perpetrators.

The gruesome murder shocked the nation and sparked renewed concerns over tourist safety in remote areas. The case has prompted calls for increased vigilance and tighter security protocols for travelers, particularly in isolated tourist spots.
