SHILLONG: A setup of a film being shot at a granary, known as 'Iew Die lang' was partially gutted when the generator used by the film crew burst causing damage to the nearby shops on Wednesday night. Iew Dielang in Shillong is the destination point of vegetables from all areas under the Khasi-Jaintia Hills before they are bought and transported to other areas.

The film was being shot by 'Benaras Media Works' and was carrying out the shooting for the film after acquiring permission from the Durbar of the Syiem (Chief) of Mylliem, Ainam Singh Syiem and his Myntri. They added that the permission has been given on the basis of the consent of the owners of the shops and dilapadated houses in the periphery. There was total devastation after the generator placed at the site caught fire at around 7 pm and spread to the buildings around the site. First-hand witnesses said that there was total chaos as the fire spread to the nearby areas.

Maintaining that it was an accident, the Police has estimated that the loss is of approximately Rs 3 lakh. The maximum losses are in the stacks of vegetables meant for daily sale. Meanwhile, the Syiem of Mylliem has said that he is waiting for the detailed report.
