First-time Ministers should not be judged by their performances in House: AL Hek

A REPORTER

SHILLONG: Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Minister, AL Hek has come in support of Sports and Youth Affairs Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh by stating that the Minister should not be judged by his performance in the floor of the Assembly.

“It is not easy for first timers to face the House. They will need to acclimatize themselves on the procedures to reply to the questions raised in the Assembly. I am sure they will improve through experience,” Hek said while speaking to reporters here on Monday.

It may be mentioned that Banteidor had failed to reply to the questions raised by Mawsynram legislator HM Shangpliang relating to the Sports department in the recently concluded autumn session of the Meghalya Legislative Assembly. However, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma came to the rescue of the Sports and Youth Affairs Minister.

Hek however, said that the first-timers have demonstarted their capability while raising various issues concerning their departments with the Central Ministries in Delhi.

“We have seen even experienced people sometime faltering while making statements on the floor of the House,” Meghalaya Health and Family Welfare Minister said.

He also said that he does not feel that simply failing to reply to questions raised in the Assembly cannot be a valid reason to drop any Minister from the Cabinet.
