Former Meghalaya CM Mukul Sangma Tags Bharatiya Janata Party As Threat To Democracy

GUWAHATI: Former Meghalaya Chief Minister and Congress leader Mukul Sangma termed the BJP-led government at the Centre as a threat to democracy and security. Sangma while addressing a press meet here on Friday said that the BJP government is unaware of the internal security situations of the country.

The Congress leader said that by trying to bring the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) into the foreground, the BJP Government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi is playing a very dangerous game. The bill is an existential threat to the people of the Northeast, he added.

Slamming the Modi government on the economic front, Sangma said that the Northeast is witnessing job scarcity and that is why we are seeing the youth of the region being forced to go outside in search of jobs.

“The government in fact has reduced the funds of DoNER and the funds of the NEC have been diverted to other projects,” alleged Sangma. He also said that no new developmental schemes have been introduced in the Northeast and all the talk of economic progress is merely an eyewash to hoodwink the people.

Taking a dig at the BJP’s ‘Ache Din’, Sangma said under Modi, the country and especially the North east are having a tough time and the policies of the BJP-lead government is a destructive one. The Congress leader also blamed the BJP of hatching a conspiracy in the updation of NRC in Assam.
