Foundation stone laid of Lummuroo Secondary School building, Shillong

SHILLONG: PWD building Minister and also the local MLA of Shangpung, Coming One Ymbon on Thursday laid the foundation stone for construction of Lummuroo Secondary School building at Shangpung Pohshnong.

The construction of the building will be funded at an amount of Rs 1.82 crore by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) under the “Supporting Human Capital Development in Meghalaya” project.

Ymbon congratulated the Lummuroo Secondary School, which is one of the schools in Shangpung area that had served for 29 years, the SMC and the people of Shangpung on the occasion and highlighted the significant features of the project.

Speaking on the occasion, the PWD building Minister said that since the project has to be completed within one year and things have to move faster.

He also urged upon the officers to monitor the work without compromising with the quality of the constructions.

The Minister also stresses on education which he said that lack of proper and quality education has led to a migration of people from rural to urban areas in the state.

To prevent rural-urban migration, Ymbon said: “We need to equip our children and for this, we need competent teachers to give them the right kind of handholding they need.”

He also urged the students to pursue their dreams through hard work to fulfill their dreams of doing something great.

Besides the local MDC KM Lyttan, engineers, principal, teachers, and headmen were also present on the occasion.

It may be mentioned that the 29-year old Lummuroo school was started in 1989. Presently there are over 544 students studying in the school.
