SHILLONG: The Good Shepherd Higher Secondary School, Jongksha has won the prestigious 'Wipro Earthian Award-2020'. This award now in its 10th year has been constituted by the Wipro Foundation to recognize excellence in sustainability within the education process in schools and colleges across India. Of over 900 project entriess, the winning entries were selected from 20 schools and eight colleges by an independent jury.
Due to the pandemic, the 'Good Shepherd School' received the award in a virtually organized function on February 13. The award carries a certificate and cash prize.
Baiahunlang Kharahnoh, Ivoreen Kharsahnoh, Naphisabet Suting, Ibakyntiew Kharmulieh, and Tinamary Nongspung along with their mentors Seiborlang Warbah and Teibhalang Warlarpih had prepared the winning project on biodiversity. "Winning this award has made us realize the need and importance of sustainability; and as students, we have a great responsibility towards this," said Baiahunalng Kharsahnoh, a team member. While congratulating the team members for bringing laurels to the school and the State, school principal Fr George Jacob said, ''The school places great importance on helping our young students to become responsible citizens of tomorrow; and participating in projects like these will help our students to achieve this goal.''
