SHILLONG: The Governor of Meghalaya, Phagu Chauhan, attended a function organized by the Rachnatmak Nonia Sanyukt Sangh at Bihutoli Khel Maidan on Sunday. Around 20, 000 people from different districts of Assam attended the programme. During the programme, a memorandum was handed over to the Governor by the Organizing Committee for the inclusion of the Nonia caste in the OCB category in the State of Assam.

Later in the evening, the Governor met with the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, at Raj Bhavan, Guwahati, Assam, where he brought to the Chief Minister's attention the need to include the "Nonia' caste in the OBC category. The Assam Chief Minister assured the Governor to look into the matter and take all necessary steps to see the fruition of the demand of the people belonging to the Nonia caste residing in Assam at the earliest.
