 'My first advice to the CM will be to upgrade Sohra into a district

SHILLONG: AL Hek -- former Meghalaya Health Minister and BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) MLA (Member of Legislative Assembly) -- has been appointed as Adviser to Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma.

In a notification issued on August 3, the Governor of Meghalaya announced the appointment of Hek, as Adviser to the Chief Minister of Meghalaya with perks and facilities under Category 'A +' with effect from the date of assumption of charge.

''I welcome and accept any role the government wants me to undertake. My first advice to the Chief Minister will be to initiate moves to upgrade Sohra into a district,'' Hek told The Sentinel.

He also said that Sohra is known globally, adding that many people from other countries know the place as 'Cherrapunjee'. Hek further said that his emphasis is to upgrade Sohra into a district before the term of the present government concludes in 2023.
