Shillong: In an eye-catching development in the State, incumbent Governor Tathagatha Roy is understood to have gone on leave.

A three-line statement issued by the Press Information Bureau (PIB) on Monday morning stated, “The President of India is pleased to appoint RN Ravi, Governor of Nagaland to discharge the functions of the Governor of Meghalaya, in addition to his own duties, during the absence on leave of Tathagata Roy, Governor of Meghalaya.”

The Union Government’s decision comes after a couple of tweets by Roy on those who are opposed to the CAB (now CAA) that has irked political parties, pressure groups and other members of the civil society. A number of these groups who have pooh-poohed him termed his departure as a relief.

The Governor of Nagaland RN Ravi will take additional charges on Tuesday. He will be sworn in at 12 noon. Meanwhile, the State Cabinet will meet on Tuesday morning, informed a release but the agenda was not mentioned.
