SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) Mawthadraishan Circle has demanded the state government to immediately upgrade the Markasa PHC to a CHC.
In this connection, HANM has met Health Minister AL Hek and also submitted a memorandum apprising him on the need to upgrade the Markasa PHC to a CHC.
In the memorandum, the Movement informed that the Markasa PHC established in 1985 has been rendering its service to over 52 villages with a total population of around 26, 121.
Informing that Markasa PHC has four sub-centres, namely Laitkseh, Marngor, Mawlangsu and Mawlangkhar; the Movment however pointed out that till date has only one doctor is catering to the needs of the people of the area.
Speaking to reporters after meeting the Health Minister, the president of HANM Mawthadraishan Circle Kharlessbon Nongbri informed that the Minister had assured them that their demand to upgrade the PHC will be examined by the department.
“The Minister has also assured us that he will be sending a team of officers to the PHC to conduct an inspection before making a decision on our demand,” he said.
