SHILLONG: The residence of Harijan Colony, Shillong has reiterated their stand that whatever the outcome may be, they will not relocate to another area.
It may be mentioned that the High Level Committee (HLC) has been tasked to find a solution to the issue, however more than one year have passed even the link road from Iew Mawlong to Them Mawlong has been closed down with high security presence.
Speaking to The Sentinel on Tuesday, headman of Harijan Colony, Bilu Singh said, “We have contributed to the development of the state for the past 200 years and this is our home hence there is no question of relocation.”
He said the residents of the area wants the government to provide them with better infrastructure in their present location instead of relocating them to a new area.
He informed that this has been conveyed to the State Government and the Central Government in the past.
Pointing out on the blockade of the link road, he said, “The government should reopen the link road which has been closed now for almost two years.”
He said this has caused plenty of inconvenience to the general public and has also caused traffic congestion in the city especially at Iew Mawlong.
“We have in the past three months had meetings with high ranking government officials on this issue and we have also suggested that a time frame should be set for the road to be open each day,” he said.
The headman said the government should open the road by 6 am in the morning and close it by 5 pm in the evening and if they feel there might be a security thread then additional security should be provided in the area.
“We urge the government to listen to our grievance and allow the road to be reopened,” he said.
