SHILLONG: Owing to heavy incessant rains across the State in the past twenty hours, normal life has been affected here and the suburbs. According to the MET office, the rains will continue for the next four days.

The heavy showers have played a spoil sport at a time when the people of the capital city of Meghalaya have been looking forward to some activities during this unlock period announced a few days back.

Bara Bazaar and Police Bazaar — the two main commercial hubs here — are not having any economic activities as the people in general are wary of the pandemic as well.

Meanwhile, the Umkhrah River and other rivulets are swollen with rain water. Quite a number of families residing by river Umkhrah river have been evacuated. While a landslide was reported in the Demseiniong area; lumjubor in the Laban area has been inundated by the swollen stream. The road link between Mawsmai and Shella has been snapped due to the landslide. Reports from the other districts are awaited.
