SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills (EKH) police on November 5 received information that an illegal consignment of narcotic drugs was being delivered to a person staying at Madanrting. On November 6, after the information was verified, immediately the ANTF team along with officers and personnel of Madanrting PS proceeded to the residence of the suspect.

Superintendent of Police of EKH, Sylvester Nongtnger informed that a house search was conducted at the residence of the suspect in the presence of independent witnesses. He said that during search, 101 soap boxes (66 soap boxes kept inside a purple colour bag and 35 soap boxes kept inside a carton box) were recovered.

"All the soap boxes contained heroin which was confirmed by a preliminary test. The heroin seized weighed 1.116 kg and had been brought from Myanmar," he said, adding that the total amount seized was around Rs. 2 crore.

The SP further informed that two women had been arrested in the case registered i.e. Madanrting P.S Case No. 150(11)2021 U/S 21(c)/29 NDPS Act and investigation is on to nab others involved in the racket.
