SHILLONG, July 8: The High Level Committee (HLC) is likely to meet next week to deliberate on the reports of the land survey and the inventory survey of the Them Iew Mawlong.

“The HLC will again meet sometime next week after receiving the reports of the fresh land survey and the inventory survey,” Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong told reporters here.

Tynsong said that the preparation of the reports by the Directorate of Land Records and Survey and also by the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) is in the final stages.

“We are hopeful that the two reports would give some kind of direction to the committee to move ahead in suggesting a permanent solution to the long pending issue concerning the sweeper lane at Them Iew Mawlong,” Tynsong who is also the chairman of the committee said.

When asked that the Sikh population residing in the sweeper’s lane did not cooperate during the inventory survey of the Shillong Municipal Board, he said that he would not like to comment anything since he is yet to receive the report from the SMB.

It may be mentioned that the Sikh community residing at Them Iew Mawlong had not cooperate with the staff of the Shillong Municipal Board during the inventory survey.

Besides listing the houses, the SMB was supposed to take the head counts of the people residing in the area in order to identify the legal and illegal settlers in the area.

However, the SMB had to wind up the exercise after completing the listing of the houses. The municipal board could not carry out the head counts since all the houses were locked.
