HSPDP’s petty politics come into play

FROM A REPORTER

SHILLONG, Jan 9: The HSPDP’s petty politics come into play when the leadership focuses on an individual rival rather than on the agendas of the party. This is apparent when the HSPDP leaders stated that they are supporting the Pynshngain N Syiem led People’s Democratic Forum (PDF) to stall H.S. Shylla from becoming the Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC).

It may be reminded that the HSPDP since the collapse of All Regiol Party Alliance (ARPA) had taken a decision to be in the opposition when PDF took over at the helm in KHADC, however soon after the recently concluded MDC by polls held in December last year, the party took a U-turn and extended their support to the PDF.

“The HSPDP does not want any person who is a threat to the indigenous people of the state to be given an opportunity to become the CEM at KHADC,” Londoner Sohtun Media Cell in charge HSPDP told reporters here on Monday.

Stating that the party perceives Shylla as a threat to the indigenous Khasi community, he said, “We have seen the past what he has done as a CEM at KHADC as he had issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for mining Uranium and to again place him in the mantle as CEM poses a huge danger for the state.”

He pointed out that the even in the manifesto of the HSPDP it has clearly stated that the party is against Uranium mining in Meghalaya.

“We took this decision to support the PDF because we want to close all doors and opportunity for Shylla to become the CEM at KHADC,” he said.
