HYC announces stir programme

From A Correspondent

Shillong, July 29: In its bid to force the State government to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Meghalaya, the Hynñiewtrep Youth Council (HYC) announced a series of agitation on Saturday.

On Saturday, the HYC had invited legislators from Khasi Jaiñtia hills region who are supporting the Dr Mukul Sangma-led government to discuss its 14-point charter of demands, including the need to implement ILP. However, not a single MLA showed up. The meeting was arranged at the Khasi tiol Dorbar Hall.

Condemning the MLAs’ failure to honour the invitation extended to them, HYC president Peter J Lawai said a number of agitations under “Save Hynñiewtrep Mission” will be launched to safeguard the interest of the indigenous Khasi-Jaintia people. And as a mark of protest against the council of ministers failure to take up their issues, including the need for ILP, the HYC has decided to organise surprise protests wherever the Chief Minister and his council of ministers attend programmes.

The HYC also said that if the State Government does not discuss the issue in the upcoming Assembly session, it would also organise surprise protest any day when the Assembly is in session.

Meanwhile, the HYC also said that it was preparing a concept note related to the implementation of ILP and other anti-influx mechanisms in collaboration with the heads of various traditiol institutions.
