Shillong: The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM) has disbanded its women’s wing besides sending a letter of caution to the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills district stating that some elements are trying to create an ‘interest group’ in the name of HANM.

Speaking to media persons on Tuesday, HANM general secretary Booby Marwein said that the central executive committee (CEC) has formally decided to dissolve the women’s wing after it found out that the functionaries are not living up to the cause of the organization. “As leaders, we have spoken to them (women functionaries) and found out there has been no co-ordination among themselves”, stated Marwein.

Moreover, the HANM central executive members petitioned the Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills, cautioning that some elements are trying to create an interest group in the guise of the organization. “HANM is a pressure group. Our plea to the public is that they should not get lured by some groups who have deviated from the objective of the mother organization. Asked further on the elements creating a ‘virtual rebellion’ in the organization, the central body functionaries refrained giving any comments.
