SHILLONG: The Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has claimed responsibility for killing businessman Romeo Lyngdoh on Sunday night.

In a press statement issued to the media, the HNLC alleged that he “received death penalty” due to his involvement in activities against the outfit.

“He was a sanctioned agent who worked as a police informer. He was paid handsomely and was instrumental in recruiting informers for the State Police locally and also from Bangladesh, “ Saiñkupar Nongtraw, general secretary-cum-publicity secretary alleged.

According to Nongtraw, the proscribed outfit has been hunting for him from 2008.

The HNLC also said that in 2016 when its cadres were arrested in Pynursla along with IEDs, Romeo was the one who provided information to the police about the cadres because they had reserved his car without knowing that he was a police informer.
