SHILLONG: Meghalaya Governor Satya Pal Malik on Friday assured a delegation of the Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO), that if Chief Minister Conrad Sangma invites him to go to Delhi to meet the Central government for implementation of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the State, he will do so.

According to CoMSO chairman RobertjuneKharjahrin, the Governor said that this is a Central subject; and as a Governor who respects the people of the State and the voices of the MLAs who passed the resolution on the ILP, he will speak with the Chief Minister on the issue.

It may be mentioned that on Friday, the CoMSO met the Governor on implementation of ILP in the State and as well as to urge him to give his assent to the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (Amendment) Bill 2020.

Speaking to reporters after meeting the Governor, the CoMSO leader said that the MRSSA (Amendment) Bill, 2020 states that every person who intends to stay in Meghalaya for more than 48 hours should furnish information in the manner prescribed under the rules.

The Bill further states that any person who willfully fails to furnish the information or provides false formation as required as per section 4A shall be liable to be punished under section 176 and 188 of the Indian Penal Code, 1860. According to Kharjahrin, this bill is similar to ILP.

The CoMSO chairman further said that the bill which was passed in March this year was sent to former Governor of the State, Tathagata Roy. He sought certain queries and even gave suggestions to send the amendment Bill to the President of India. Kharjahrin also informed that after meeting Malik they came to know that the amendment Bill was with the office of the Governor till then.
