If Voted To Power, Will Scrap Border Deal With Assam: TMC Leader Mukul Sangma

Shillong: Former Meghalaya Chief Minister and TMC leader Mukul Sangma has said his party will scrap the border agreement between Meghalaya and Assam if voted to power.

While speaking at a party meeting on Tuesday, Sangma said, ''We stand committed to seeing that it is undone if we are voted to power."

Further while speaking to reporters, the former Meghalaya Chief Minister asserted that he was extremely disturbed following the harassment of Garo villages that have been forced into Assam through the recent agreement.

''Our residents along the Assam-Meghalaya border are facing atrocities,'' he added.

He also added that whatever discussions have taken place between the two governments are not in sync with the expected line of agreement.

''The things which have been decided in the bilateral discussion and in the agreement, it is not acceptable to the people of the state,'' he added.

The agreement was signed between Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Meghalaya chief minister Conrad K Sangma.
