IIM conducts PGP commencement programme

SHILLONG, July 2: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Shillong conducted the commencement ceremony for participants of the Post Graduate Program (PGP) in Management 2018-20 comprising and Fellow Program in Management 2018-2022 comprising of 181 and 04 respectively.

The institute welcomed the 11th batch of PGP in the presence of chief guest Satish Pai, Managing Director, Hindalco Industries.

Addressing the participants, Professor Keya Sen Gupta, Director in-charge, IIM Shillong said, “This is the day when you join the fraternity of IIM Shillong and the baton of carrying forward the prestige of the institute is handed over to you. Life is incomplete without challenges, and we will work together as a family to make sure that you handle all the challenges responsibly.”

Pai shared his enriching experience with the participants and talked about the challenges and key to success in the corporate world. He emphasized the importance of time management, stress management, ethics and leadership in professional as well as personal life.

Talking about the diversity of the batch, Pai said: “Research and experience have proven that diverse teams tend to perform better as they can bring in much wider perspective.” The 11th batch of PGP has 40% females and participants from eclectic academic background.

The participants took the oath administered by Prof. Basav Roychoudhury, PGP Chairperson, IIM Shillong. Prof. Roychoudhury enlightened the batch about the opportunities that lie ahead of them in their 2-year course.

The wide array of electives offered, the course of independent study to pursue research, two-month internship and the study abroad program to get international exposure were a few of the important opportunities highlighted by him.

Celebrating ten years of quality education in management and sustainable business, the Institute has achieved far and wide accolades both institutionally and through the participation of its student in prime corporate and b-school competitions.

With a dedicated focus in inclusivity and outreach, IIM Shillong continues to touch the lives of the under-privileged and economically backward students from various schools in and around Shillong, primarily in Science and Math coaching, through its ‘Nurturing Minds’ initiative.
