SHILLONG: A couple from Indore, Madhya Pradesh—Sonam Raghuvanshi and her husband Raja Raghuvanshi—has gone missing in Sohra (Cherrapunji), Meghalaya, prompting an intensive search operation by the police and local authorities. The couple has not been heard from for over 24 hours, raising serious concerns about their safety.
According to police sources, the couple had rented a two-wheeler to explore the scenic East Khasi Hills region. However, the vehicle was later found abandoned near the popular Sohra Rim viewpoint. This discovery has intensified fears of a possible accident or foul play. Repeated attempts to contact the couple via their mobile phones have failed, as both devices are switched off.
Their last confirmed sighting was on Sunday, after which all communication ceased. In response, authorities have launched a coordinated search operation involving police officers, Home Guards, local volunteers, and residents. Search teams are combing through the area, reviewing CCTV footage, and questioning people who might have seen the couple.
Deputy Inspector General of Police (Eastern Range), Davis NR Marak, stated, “The search party has been dispatched and they are scanning the area. Volunteers, Home Guards, and other locals are assisting the police in the search operations. The East Khasi Hills police is organising a larger search operation tomorrow.” Superintendent of Police for East Khasi Hills, Vivek Syiem, also commented on the case, saying, “Efforts are ongoing to trace the couple’s whereabouts. The search operation is in progress.”
