Shillong: Three pressure groups of Meghalaya – Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) and Ri-Bhoi Youth Federation (RBYF) under the aegis of the North East Indigenous People’s Forum (NEIPF) will hold a “Black Flag Day” on January 11 to protest against the passing of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016 by the Lok Sabha.

Wellbirth Rani, president of the FKJGP said that just passing of the cabinet resolution by the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government was not enough.

“The Cabinet Resolution should not be the end but the Meghalaya government should be proactive,” Rani said. The three pressure groups also said that the Meghalaya government should convene a special session of the Assembly and engage with the Centre on the issue.
