SHILLONG: United Democratic Party (UDP) nominee and common candidate of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) from the Shillong parliamentary seat, Jemino Mawthoh hit out at the Congress for branding the regional party as being a of the BJP.

According to Mawthoh, the Congress has no other issue and was doing it just to misinform the voters.

Speaking to media persons after filing his nomination Mawthoh also slammed the Congress on being together with the BJP on the issues of Citizenship Bill and cowslaughter.

“The Congress blames the BJP but you (Congress) cannot double speak on these issues because what the BJP is doing, the Congress has been doing for the last many years,” the UDP candidate said.

Mawthoh also alleged that the Congress did not strongly oppose the citizenship bill in Lok Sabha and even in Rajya Sabha.

He also said that the Congress, which for years has been representing the Shillong Lok Sabha seat has been spreading this propaganda that in Parliamentary elections, people should vote for national parties.

It may be mentioned Mawthoh is supported by the MDA coalition, except the BJP.

The parties supporting Mawthoh are the NPP, PDF, HSPDP, UDP and Independents.

Meanwhile, another candidate Samuel Hashah, who is fighting the elections as an independent filed his nominations on Wednesday.
