Shillong: The Khasi Student Union (KSU) and the Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), Mawlai Circle, have demanded that the Department of Home Guards and Civil Defence and Food Corporation of India appoints a family member of late Dismarlin Lyngdoh Lyngkhoi on compassionate ground.

It may be mentioned that last month, Lyngkhoi was murdered by four truck drivers at an FCI depot near the Assam-Meghalaya border.

Addressing reporters in the city on Thursday, Rapborlang Nongrum, general secretary of KSU, Mawlai, in the presence of Lyngkhoi’s wife Fatima Nonglang and her children informed that both the NGOs have approached the Home Guards and Civil Defence.

He said that the Food Corporation of India has assured them that the matter will be taken up with higher-ups in Delhi.

The KSU leader further said that the matter will also be taken up with the State Government.

“Lyngkhoi was the sole provider of the family and now that he is no more in this world. It is proving to be hard to sustain the family,” he said.

He pointed out that Lyngkhoi has five children of which four of them are still studying and his youngest daughter is only three-month-old.

He also urged the State police to speed up the investigation process with an objective to immediately nab these culprits involved in the killing of Lyngkhoi.
