Justice Saikia addresses programme on human rights at Shillong

SHILLONG: A one-day awareness programme on human rights organized by the Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) was held today at Mawsynram Border Area College, Mawsynram.

Speaking on the occasion, Meghalaya Human Rights Commission (MHRC) Chairman Justice Aftab Hussain Saikia said the objective of organizing the awareness programme on Human Rights was to educate the people especially the students about their fundamental duties and rights as enshrined in our Constitution. Justice Saikia also stressed on the importance of knowing the Constitution of India. He also enlightened on the various rights and legal remedies which the public can resort to whenever their basic human rights are violated.

During the programme, PJP Hanaman, Member MHRC gave an overview of the Human Rights in Meghalaya. Other speakers on the day are B. Diengngan, SDPO, Pynursla and Smti P. Nongrum, APP, Sohra. The programme was followed by an interactive session wherein teachers and students posed questions on various topics relating to Human Rights.
