Kakwagre water-supply scheme under Jal Jeevan Mission launched in East Garo Hills

WILLIAMNAGAR: The East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner and the Chairman of DWSM, Swapnil Tembe, handed over the Kakwagre Water Supply Scheme, sanctioned under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), to the Village Water and Sanitation Committee (VWSC), Kakwagre village at a function organized by the PHE Department recently, stated a release.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner urged the villagers to ensure sustainability of the source of water, protection of catchment area and collection of water tariff for the operation and maintenance of the scheme.

The Executive Engineer and the Member Secretary of DWSM, Sujit P Marak, highlighted the roles and responsibilities of the villagers and informed the gathering that as per the guidelines of the JJM, water supply schemes are to be handed over to the respective VWSCs for ownership and operation and maintenance of the scheme. The SDO, PHE, TG Momin, while speaking about the scheme, informed that Kakwagre is the first village to have the water supply scheme in the district.
