KHADC CEM blasts Assam duo for 'snub on tribal women'

SHILLONG: Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Chief Executive Member (CEM) Titos Chyne on Friday condemned a letter written by Dr Baharl Islam and Tuni Das from Assam's Sijubari Charali, Haligaon, to KSU general secretary Donald V Thabah and to the KHADC CEM on May 22, allegedly attacking the dignity of tribal women and the indigenous community as a whole.

Speaking to reporters, Chyne said that KHADC has taken strong cognizance of the matter.

He said the KHADC would immediately write to the State government to direct the Home department to find out and arrest the persons concerned.

The CEM said the government should also take up the matter with the government of Assam .

When asked, he said, "The district council is considering to file an FIR against the accused persons."

He further said that the council will take a call after consultation with the members as well as SP of the district.

It may be mentioned that the letter was also addressed to the Urban Affairs Minister Hamletson Dohling who is a former general secretary of the KSU.
