SHILLONG: After the Opposition at the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) took the decision not to field a candidate for the vacant position of the Chairman, CEM Titos Chyne said that he welcomes the decision as it shows their intent to work together for the interest of the people.

It may be mentioned that earlier, on May 19, former chairman PN Syiem resigned from his position which prompted the Governor to announce that election for a new chairman should be held on May 27.

"This decision by the United Democratic Front (UDF) in the council not to field a candidate indicates that they have the spirit to work together with the new Executive Committee in the KHADC," Chyne said while Speaking to The Sentinel.

He said during the time when the election for the CEM post was held they didn't field a candidate and they are doing it again now which is a positive as there has been many rumblings and disruption in the functioning of the council in the past few months.

When asked, he informed that, as was decided earlier, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) will stick to its stand and will field Pyniaid Sing Syiem as the candidate for the chairman post.
