KHADC confident of ousting CEM

SHILLONG, July 8: The 16 rebel MDCs in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) who are pushing for a special session to be held with the objective to oust KHADC CEM PN Syiem are confident that this time around the CEM will be removed from his position.

It may be reminded that earlier last week around 16 MDCs which included four members from the National People’s Party (NPP), five from United Democratic Party (UDP), three each from Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP) and People Democratic Front (PDF) and one Independent met the Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma demanding the removal of KHADC CEM PN Syiem.

A source within the rebel MDCs while speaking to The Sentinel said, “We are confident that this time around if a special session is held at KHADC, the CEM will have to relinquish his position as he has lost the support of most of the MDCs within the Council.” He also informed that the decision to oust the CEM by the 16 MDCs is due to the dictatorial style of functioning of the CEM. It may be reminded that even in two previous occasions there has been an attempt to remove the KHADC CEM PN Syiem from his position; however, on both the occasion the MDCs failed to realize their objective. Last week, NPP MDC HS Shylla after meeting the Chief Minister along with 15 other MDCs said, “A no-confidence motion will be tabled in the next session of the Council.”
