KHADC Lineage Bill to be recalled, Shillong

SHILLONG: The Executive Committee of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) Meghalaya at a meeting held on Tuesday has decided to recall the Khasi Hill Autonomous District (Khasi Social Custom of Lineage) (Second Amendment), Bill 2018 from the State government.

Speaking to reporters, after the meeting KHADC CEM HS Shylla, informed that the EC has taken the decision to recall the Bill during the meeting.

“We will write to the State government and send the letter to the DCA department requesting the government to resend the Bill to the district council on August 16,” he said.

He said that the reason the Bill is being recalled by the district council is because there is some clauses and sections in the Bill which need to be removed. When asked, he said, “When we receive the Bill the Executive Committee of the KHADC will re-examine the Bill along with legal expert and then only a special session will be held for amendment of the Bill.”
