KHADC Polls: Candidates File Nomination Papers

SHILLONG: More prominent political leaders filed their nomination papers for the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) elections at the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Shillong on Thursday.

Among the candidates who filed their nomination papers today included former MLA and Cabinet Minister Paul Lyngdoh from Jaiaw constituency, present Deputy CEM, KHADC, Teilinia Thangkhiew from Mylliem constituency, former Mawlai MLA Embhah Syiemlieh beside others.

Former CEM of KHADC and former chairman of PDF PN Syiem also filed his papers to contest the MDC polls as an NPP candidate from Mawkhar–Pynthorumkhrah constituency.

Speaking to reporters after filing his nomination papers, PN Syiem said, “I contest the elections in order to protect the traditional customs of the indigenous people of the State.”

Syiem, who is contesting against sitting PDF MDC James Ban Basaiawmoit, said, “In any contest there is always a fight. The name of the winner or loser will be announced on March 2”.

Meanwhile, Teilinia Thangkhiew said, “Both the MLA and I agree to work in unity as there is an urgency to speed up developmental activities in Mylliem constituency.”
