 SHILLONG: Chairman Manoj Kumar of the Khadi and Village Industries Commission, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Government of India, undertook a two-day visit to the state of Meghalaya from July 13 to July 14 to extend the ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ and ‘Local to Global’ campaigns of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the remote villages of the northeastern states.

During this visit, he distributed 400 bee-boxes and bee colonies to 40 beekeepers in Pynursla block, East Khasi Hills District, and Amlarem block, West Jaintia Hills District. He also distributed electrician toolkits to 20 beneficiaries at Don Bosco Technical School in Laitumkhrah, Shillong.

On July 13, KVIC chairman met with the Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad Sangma, at the Secretariat, and they had a detailed discussion on expanding activities related to Khadi and village industries in Meghalaya. As part of his two-day visit to Meghalaya, KVIC chairman Manoj Kumar participated in various programmes including addressing an awareness camp organized under the Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) and Gramodyog Vikas Yojana.

On July 13, while addressing the distribution programme of electrician toolkits at Don Bosco Technical School in Shillong, Chairman Manoj Kumar stated that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is progressing rapidly towards becoming a global leader.

KVIC is not only providing skill development training to unemployed individuals but also making toolkits available, aiming to create more self-employment opportunities in villages and prevent migration towards cities. During the bee-box distribution programme organized in Pynursla block, East Khasi Hills District, he appealed to beekeepers to produce high-quality honey so that the demand for local Indian honey increases globally, thus realizing the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s’Local to Global’ initiative. On July 13, in Nongthymmai, East Khasi Hills District of Meghalaya, the chairman inaugurated a restaurant which started with a loan of rupees 18 lakh under the service sector of PMEGP. The beneficiary of this unit has also been provided a margin money subsidy of approximately rupees 6.3 lakh by KVIC, stated a press release.
