SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Tyrsad Circle has written to the Meghalaya Health Minister AL Hek demanding the State government to speed up the opening and functioning of the Mawsadang Sub-Centre.

In the letter sent to the Health Minister, the KSU drew his attention concerning the welfare of the people of Mawsadang area which time and again they had raised before the authorities concerned but till date no solution has been provided. In the hope that as per the goals of the ‘National Health Policy 2017’ which envisages the attainment of the highest possible levels of health and well-being for all through easy access to good quality health-care services, the KSZU unit urged the minister to resolve this long-pending issue for the benefit of the people especially women and children of this area.

The KSU also urged the Minister to appoint the required numbers of manpower to serve the people in need of basic health care facilities. In the letter, the Tyrsad unit of KSU stated that till date there is only one sub-centre at Tyrsad Umkseh which make it impossible for this sub-centre to cater to all the people from different villages of the area. The jurisdiction of the yet-to-function sub-centre will cover seven villages of Mawsadang, Pyndenumbri, Lawkhla Mawlong, Lawkhla, Laitniangtlong, Niamsang and Laitryngwai and some of these villages are in the far flung area which is still not motorable, KSU pointed out.

In the interest of the people of Mawsadang and adjoining villages, the KSU called upon the Minister in-charge of Health to speed up the opening of the sub-centre at Mawsadang and make it fully functional at the earliest.
