Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) Candidate Files Nomination For Lok Sabha Polls

SHILLONG: Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM) candidate for the Shillong Lok Sabha, THS Bonney filed his nomination on Tuesday.

A retired Indian Forest Service (IFS) officer, Bonney is a 1985 batch officer and took voluntary retirement in 2005. He joined the KHNAM prior to the 2018 Assembly election.

Speaking to media persons after filing his nomination, the former bureaucrat said, “I have decided to contest the Lok Sabha elections after seeing the miserable plight of the people in almost all rural areas under Shillong parliamentary seat.”

Bonney slammed the past and present governments for the lack of development in Meghalaya.

According to the KHNAM candidate he has toured more than 600 of the 2,000 villages in the State even as he stated that the state of education in is deplorable condition.

“If the education system in our State is not changed, we have no hope of improvement. Therefore, if elected as Member of Parliament, my focus will be on the rural areas and to ensure development,” he said.

Bonney lamented that the per capita-income of Meghalaya is only Rs 71, 000, while the per capita-income of a smaller State like Sikkim is four times more. He also said that if one looks at the human development index, Meghalaya stands at 26.
