KJP Assembly to Donate Land for Road Expansion in Shillong

SHILLONG: The KJP Assembly has decided to contribute part of their land to the Dorbar Shnong of Jaiaw Laitdom, Shillong, for the purpose of expanding the existing road, which be benefiting the general public, especially during rush hours as the area is prone to traffic congestion.

A delegation of the executive members of Dorbar Shnong and headman of Jaiaw Laitdom SB Kharbangar, representatives from the Dr H Gordon Roberts Hospital including Dr R Nongrum, Medical Superintendent (MS) of the hospital, local MLA Adelbert Nongrum and officials form PWD (Roads) inspected the area.

The KJP Assembly has agreed to donate 1.5 meters in breadth and 36 meters in length of land to the Dorbar Shnong. The land which the KJP Assembly has donated also has a guest house of the hospital.

Speaking to reporters, after the inspection, Adelbert Nongrum said, “This is an issue which has been pending for the past many years and finally the wishes of the people of Jaiaw and the State has finally been achieved.”

He said that this is not just an issue of the constituency but the State as a whole and with the expansion of the road there will be less congestion in the city and it will benefit the people of the State as traffic congestion is a serious issue as its getting more and more congested in the city every passing year.

“After all the papers work and documents have been prepared, I will soon meet with the State Government to take up this issue through the PWD department to sanction the construction of the road,” he said. Meanwhile, Dr R Nongrum said that the hospital has no objection to the decision of the KJP Assembly as it will also ease traffic in the area and will help patients reach the hospital on time especially during times of emergency.

The headman of Jaiaw Laitdon also lauded the decision of the KJP Assembly and informed that Rev P Hynniewta, senior administrative secretary in-charge trust of the Assembly wills soon hand over all the land documents to the Dorbar Shnong.
