KSU reiterates opposition to CAA, demands ILP, early resolution of boundary dispute

A REPORTER

SHILLONG: The General Executive Council of the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) held on Saturday discussed three issues: the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA)-2019, the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and the boundary dispute between Meghalaya and Assam.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, KSU president Lambokstarwell Marngar said the KSU is firm on the stand to oppose CAA; and public meetings opposing this Act will be organized at different locations in the State to make the people aware of the dangers of the legislation towards the indigenous people.

On the demand for implementing ILP, he said, "As we wait for the approval of the Centre to implement ILP in our State, the Meghalaya government should immediately implement the MRSSA-2016." He informed that the KSU will hold public meetings at Mawsynram and Nongstoin to make the people aware of the CAA, on January 16 and 18. He added that if the State government delays in implementing the MRSSA, the KSU will be forced to set up their own entry and exit points to check influx.

"It is a worrying sign when even security forces like the BSF personnel have been assaulted by illegal Bangladeshis who had infiltrated into our State," he pointed out. On the boundary dispute between Meghalaya and Assam, he urged the Government to take up the matter seriously. He stated that though both the State governments have already had several discussions on this issue, concrete solution is yet to be found.
