Laban public meet gives PHE Department and Municipal Board week’s time to resolve water crisis

SHILLONG: A public meeting at the Assam Club, Laban here gave one week’s time to the PHE and Municipal Department to resolve the water scarcity and water crisis in the entire Greater Laban Area. The meeting further resolved to file a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) against the PHE Department and Municipal Board if the departments fail to address the public issue within the given time period. It was convened by Sanbor Shullai, MLA of South Shillong constituency, on Saturday.

The meeting held in the presence of the Rangbah Shnong, Secretary Shnong, Rangbah Dong and members of the Dorbar Shnong Greater Laban Area was also attended by top officials of the PHE department and the Shillong Municipal Board.

After a threadbare discussion, the meeting unanimously decided to give one week’s time to the PHE and Municipal Department to resolve the water scarcity and water crisis caused due to partial distribution system of water and manipulation by the personnel concerned of PHE and Municipal including private plumbers.

The meeting was chaired by E. Kharwanlang Rangbah Shnong of Laban. He informed the gathering that an emergent meeting of the Dorbar Shnong will be convened to frame rules and regulations for detecting all illegal activities regarding distribution of water to the residents.

Shullai also informed that a new proposal for additional water supply scheme to cover the Greater Lumparing area and the Greater Laban area was submitted to the Government.

The meeting ended with a vote of thanks from Joy Rynjah, Secretary Dorbar Shnong Laban.
