Guwahati: It has shockingly come to light that a girl from Meghalaya was allegedly tortured, assaulted, and sedated for around 3 months during the coronavirus-induced lockdown period.

As per reports in the media, the girl from Meghalaya had been confined to her colleague's home for three months and was subjected to torture for 3 long months.

The plight of the Meghalaya girl finally ended on Friday after she was rescued and the colleague accused of torture was arrested by police.

According to reports in the media, the girl moved to Delhi from Shillong after she got a job at a private company. However, she found herself once the lockdown kicked in.

At this point, a colleague appeared like a messiah in disguise and invited the helpless girl over to his house. The 20-year-old girl then reached Meerut where things turned dire for her. The Meghalaya girl was reportedly held captive and was subjected to torture. She was not even allowed to contact her family or her aunt in Delhi.

After 3 months of continued torture, she finally got hold of a phone this month and dialled her mother's number. She said that she wanted to return home.

Swinging into action, the 20-year-old girl's mother approached the police and lodged a complaint upon which a case under relevant sections was registered at the Madanrting police station.

The Meghalaya police contacted the UP police and the accused was arrested. After the man's arrest, the Delhi Gate police added sections of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The Meghalaya girl was produced before a magistrate after the accused was sent to jail. The girl will now be handed over to her aunt in Delhi, from where she can return to Shillong.. As per reports, further investigation of the case will be conducted after the woman's statement is recorded.
