Mairang should be upgraded into a district: Brolding Nongsiej

SHILLONG: The MLA of Mawthadrashan constituency and Cabinet Minister in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government Brolding Nongsiej has said that there is a need to upgrade the Mairang Civil Sub-division into a district.

“The Mairang Civil Sub-division in one of the oldest sub-divisions in the State; hence there is a need to upgrade it to a district,” Nongsiej said.

He added that the initiative has been in process to discuss the matter with the State government. At present the issue is under active discussion at the ground level. “I have had discussions with the elders, traditional heads and people from my constituency — Mawthadrashan — concerning this matter. However, there is also a need to discuss this with the people of Mairang constituency also as the civil sub-division caters to both the constituencies,” he pointed out.

Nongsiej also stated that he will also take up the matter with the new president of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Metbah Lyngdoh who is also the Speaker of the State Legislative Assembly besides being the MLA of Mairang.

“There is also a need to constitute a committee which will include people from both the constituencies to discuss the issue and take up the subject matter with the government,” he added.
