Man arrested for decamping with Rs 6.8 Lakh from Shillong

DOIMUKH: A person hired as a manager to look after a swimming pool in Doimukh, who was on the run to evade arrest by the police after stealing Rs 6,80,000 on March 23, was finally arrested on Wednesday from Shillong, Papumpare police said on Wednesday.

Earlier a complaint was received from Tana Tamar Tara, a resident of Midpu-II, Doimukh, that Paul Debbarma, a native of Agartala, who was working as the manager in his swimming pool in Midpu, had fled with Rs. 6,80,000/-.

A DMK/PS/Case No. 16/2022 u/s 406 IPC was registered in connection with the case and a team was constituted consisting of SI Balkar Singh, HCT TD Goiba, Constables, M Thapa, and H Dutta.

The police team, under the active guidance of SDPO Doimukh, Bomken Basar, and the supervision of Dr Neelam Nega, SP Papumpare, raided various places in Shillong and finally arrested the accused person on Wednesday with the help of the Meghalaya Police.

He has been interrogated, during which he has confessed to committing the crime. He was produced in the Yupia court and sent to police custody for two days, police said. Meanwhile, SP Papumpare appealed to the local entrepreneurs and business community to conduct character checks and verify the identity of the person properly before hiring anyone.
