SHILLONG: Mawphlang MLA SK Sunn has written to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on the delay to implement the New Shillong Township Water Supply Project.
In the letter to the Chief Minister, Sunn said that procurements of DI Pipes and MS Pipes for New Shillong Township Water Supply Project were also made sometime during September 2015 and August 2016 respectively.
He, however, regretted that while the project for New Shillong has not started, works for Ampati Water Supply Scheme, in South West Garo Hills have started and is in progress.
“While the decision to implement the project for South West Garo Hills district is welcome, the decision not to implement the project for East Khasi Hills district is highly questionable,” Sunn said.
The Mawphlang legislator also said that the government cannot adopt different yardstick for Garo Hills and another for Khasi Hills even as he urged the government to immediately consider the implementation of the New Shillong Township Water Supply in the line of the Greater Ampati Water Supply Project.
Sunn said that the detailed project report of the New Shillong Township Water Supply Project (Phase I) vis-à-vis cost of different components of the project was arrived at and formulated by the department after a detailed survey of the different components of the project.
Institutions within the project area of New Shillong Township Water Supply Project like NEIGRIHMS and other institutions are classified as bulk consumers.
